Everyone knows wool! But do they really? Did you know that the wool fiber is a true wonder of nature? Are you curious to learn more? Simply read on.
Wool is a living, breathing material. For thousands of years wool has proven to be packed with ingenious qualities only nature could come up with. Early stone age humans started utilizing sheep wool to make clothes since wool, compared with animal skin, was easy and safe to harvest. Toward the end of the Stone Age spinning wool fibers into yarn was commonly practiced. The societies of early Egypt and Greece appreciated the advantages of clothing made from wool fibers; wool was a highly regarded trade product in the areas around Babylon, Ninive and Milet. Romans introduced domestication of sheep in their Asian territories. The wool-boom started in the early 14th century when Merino sheep were bread in Spain on a large scale – and to this day wool is going strong.
