W O O L – Natural Beauty - EASY CARE
Most of our GEIGER knits are made from pure new wool. To preserve the natural beauty of this fiber we recommend to keep dry-cleaning to an absolute minimum. Similar to human hair the fiber is protected by natural oils (Lanolin). Harsh chemicals, as used during dry-cleaning, remove these natural oils. This does not only take away the luxurious luster of the fiber but also diminishes its natural climate comfort properties. GEIGER takes great care to preserve Lanolin in the wool yarns during processing. This assures that GEIGER wool garments are easy to care for which will make them favorite items in you wardrobe.
W O O L – Care
Only a few simple steps are needed to keep GEIGER wool beautiful for years to come – the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
• To remove any odors your GEIGER Walk item might pick up during wear simply hang the garment outside in a sheltered spot of in a steam filled bathroom. This “airs out” any unpleasant odors and leaves the garment smelling fresh and clean – naturally.
• Dry surface dirt can be removed by shaking the garment. The high elasticity of the fiber will help the garment to retain its original shape. Due to this property the humidity in the air will make wrinkles “fall out” naturally.

• Knits that are worn on the bare skin should be washed as needed. We recommend hand washing with the garment turned inside out.
• The luxurious wool fiber likes it cool when washed. Water temperatures should not exceed 90°F. Higher temperature could make the material shrink and loose its shape.
• We recommend washing wool only with special wool detergents. These washing agents do not remove the natural oils from the fiber, leaving the garment soft and preserve its shine and color brilliance. Liquid detergents are best to assure that no soap residue is left behind.
• Avoid pulling, rubbing the wool during washing or wringing the fabric to remove excess water. Instead gently squeeze the suds through the garment and lay the garment out on a towel to air-dry.
• Some – mostly European made – washing machines offer a special wool cycle. This cycle assures that the garment does not get spun. Instead the garment gets gently rocked back and forth to protect the fiber. After washing the garment get air-dried as listed above.
|
• In any case avoid using fabric softener, since they interfere with the wool natural elasticity. The will cause for the wool garment to loose its shape.
• Wool should not be dried in the tumbler.
Also:
Did you know that “pilling” is a sign of a pure natural wool fiber? Pills can be easily removed.
Pilling is caused when loose surface fibers knot together during wear of the garment. The finer the fiber the more it is prone to pill. Since GEIGER uses the finest grade wool fibers in its products, our products can show pilling. This is not a defect!
GEIGER consciously avoids finishes that prevent pilling. Commonly used anti-pilling agents such as “FREON” have been connected to health issues and are hurting our environment. This chemical removes the outer scale structure on the wool fiber leaving it smooth, which prevents pilling.
